Fiber Construction in Our Community: What You Need to Know
You may have noticed an increase in fiber construction throughout our service territory this summer. Multiple communication companies, including Spectrum (Charter) and Frontier, are installing fiber both underground and on existing utility poles.
Many of these projects are being funded in part through state and federal broadband grant programs designed to expand high-speed internet access in rural and underserved areas.
To be clear, this construction is not being completed by Tricounty Rural Electric Cooperative, and Tricounty has no affiliation with these communication companies.
We have received numerous calls from members with questions and concerns about the construction process, including stakes, cable, new guy wires, and impacts to yards and landscaping.
When communication companies need to attach their facilities to Tricounty poles, they are required to meet applicable engineering, loading, design, and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements. Tricounty does not control the construction practices of these independent companies or how they perform their underground or other installation work.
We understand that construction can be frustrating, particularly when it affects your property. If you have a concern about the installation work, damage to your property, or the construction process, please contact the communication company performing the work directly.
